Hazelridge School is known for having the most-involved parent council in Sunrise School Division. The Hazelridge Parent Advisory Council, otherwise known as the PAC would like to welcome you to the school. We would like to let you know a little about what we do, and encourage you to get involved and participate in your child’s school experience.
What we do: The main role of the PAC is to plan a few special events for the school and help purchase some needed equipment. Of course, this involves some fundraising. PAC is also a liaison between the parents and the school trustees and superintendent and provides support to parents who need information.
Here are some events we support and coordinate:
The Halloween Hoot – a family friendly dress-up event with prizes, fun activities, and delicious spooky snacks
The Hot Lunch – Skating Program – children are escorted to neighbouring Hazelridge Arena to enjoy a hot lunch and a fun time of skating. Parents and younger family members are encourage to join us for free!
The Milk Program – White and chocolate milk is offered for sale twice a week in Oct/Nov, Jan/Feb and Mar/Apr.
Yard Maintenance / Cleanup – the PAC works with community pride to keep our school yard looking nice – trimming trees and weeding flower beds.
Family Picnic – Every year in June in the PAC hosts a family picnic – a great place to hang out with old friends and make new ones! The new kindergarteners for the next year are also invited so they can meet some future schoolmates.
Staff Appreciation Lunch – our teachers and staff work hard caring for our children and we thank them each year by preparing a specially themed luncheon.
Generally, we hold two major fundraisers each year. These PAC fundraisers are separate from the school-organized fundraisers which raise money for field trips and that sort of thing. Examples are the Christmas raffle and the Spring Flower Sale. This money is used to cover the cost of special events (listed above) and to help the school purchase special equipment such as our play structure. Last year we purchased snowshoes and other sports equipment and this year we cost-shared the purchase of a set of digital cameras with the school board. Each year we have also helped cover some of the cost of the Grade 5 camp. We are always looking for fresh, new ideas for fundraising, too, so if you have an idea, let us know!
How can you get involved? Well, you just had to ask!!
All of the above programs need willing hearts and busy hands or they just won’t happen! And even better– no previous experience is necessary. A PAC Handbook is being prepared with all the ‘how-to’ details for all these projects.
Most importantly, come out to the PAC meetings held every 2 months to share your thoughts and ideas and learn more about what we can do to make Hazelridge School the best school around! Remember - child care is provided.
If you are interested in helping out with any PAC activities and would like to know more about what’s involved, please call one of the PAC members and we’ll be glad to get you involved!
PROUD TO BE A HAZELRIDGE HOUND!
