Facts About Our School
Centennial School is a Kindergarten to Grade 6 school located in beautiful Lac du Bonnet, Manitoba.  As part of Sunrise School Division, Centennial School serves the Town and Rural Municipality of Lac du Bonnet as well as neighbouring communities.  Our current schools population is 212.

Centennial School offers the Kindergarten to Grade Six Manitoba curriculum within a Multi-age framework.  The school is dedicated to the development of the whole child. This philosophy is supported by a comprehensive student support team that includes Resource, Behaviour Resource, Guidance, Reading Recovery, Literacy Support, and Talent Development teachers.

Curricular and extra-curricular programming includes Basic French, Music, Choir, the Integration of ICT across the Curriculum, Daily Physical Education, AAA programming, student council, green team, conflict managers, intramural sports, various clubs, and a comprehensive wellness program supported by a Balanced School Day Schedule.

Centennial School continues to successfully follow the positive behaviour program, Together We Light the Way, which focuses on developing responsibility among students in the areas of academics, leadership, teamwork, and respect.

A strong emphasis on early literacy over the past four years has seen the addition of several new programs in our school that focus on parents learning side-by side with their children in fun and interactive programs, events, and activities.  These include an enhanced kindergarten program called KIDS Write, pre-school initiatives like Getting Started, and events like our Family Learning Fair and Family Picnic where staff, community partners, and families come together for information sharing, learning, and fun.  In 2011, the Lac du Bonnet Discovery Centre and Centennial School were jointly awarded the MACC Educaring Award for the work that they are doing to promote early learning experiences for families and young children in our school and community.

An emphasis on citizenship and community service continues to be of high importance in our school.  Over the past few years, our students and staff have been involved in a number of student and/or staff led initiatives that benefited both our local and global communities.  The Fair Trade Action Committee’s leadership during the crisis in Haiti is one example of our Kids Helping Kids all over the world.  In 2011, this group was recognized for the work that they did in mobilizing our school and community in an awareness campaign to help the homeless.  They earned both the Manitoba School Association Group Award for Citizenship and a Heroes of Mental Health Award for their project Spreading Blankets; Making Change in support of Siloam Mission.
