ART

11G ART:
An introduction to six different media areas – paint, print, fibre, sculpture, drawing, clay – and the basic skills needed to work with them. Students will work individually and in groups to explore these media. Both small and large-scale work will be produced.

21G ART:
Students will continue to work in the six media areas introduced in the previous grade. More complex techniques and materials will be used. Art history and artists will be linked to the media and techniques. We will begin an introduction to Art Appreciation and Criticism.

31G ART:
Focus will be on multi-media units that combine various techniques and media to explore concepts of self and societal expression. Artistic movements such as Impressionism, Surrealism, and Abstraction will be explored. Students will be expected to work more independently and in depth to produce work of personal meaning.

41G ART (proposed):
Students will be expected to work on mastering advanced techniques in all media areas. Research and independent study of artists and Art History will combine with individual projects to produce personal statements about student concerns and passions. Art Appreciation and Criticism will expand to include student work.
