What is the Student Council?
The Centennial School Student Council is a group of dedicated children under teacher supervision who work for the benefit of the students and staff of Centennial School.
How does a student serve on the Student Council ?
The executive of the Student Council is elected by their peers. There are six positions which include president,vice-president,secretary,two p.r. reps and a primary rep.The president must be a student in grade six while the vice-president is limited to grade five. The new position of primary rep is open only to a grade four student. All other positions are open to students in five and six.
They have to have their nomination papers signed by 10 students. Each candidate must have a campaign manager who introduces the candidate to the rest of the school on the day for speeches. The candidates prepare and present a speech focusing on their accomplishments and how they feel that they would benefit Centennial School After all of the speeches are given in front of their classmates and members of their tracks, voting takes place in the individual classrooms and the votes are counted. The winners of the elections are announced at the end of the day and their stay in office begins!
All student council members are expected to be role models for their fellow students using respectful behavior in the classroom and on the playground. As well they are expected to keep up with all their homework assignments. If any member cannot follow these rules they may be asked to resign and possibly replaced with the second place candidate.
Mr.Schwartz, Mr. Ogren, Mrs. Butler and Mrs. Rand act as staff advisors to the Student Council.
