The first day of the trip Thursday, September 19 was gorgeous. A beautiful, bright sunny day filled with adventures and swimming. On Friday, September 20, Mother Nature tested the students with heavy rain and thunderstorms all day. Students were quick to learn proper paddling techniques and terminology as well as wilderness survival skills like shelter building, cooking over fires and plant identification. Next up is the Grade 11 Wilderness Voyageurs Canoe Trip in June. During this trip, students are challenged to a three-night canoe trip that builds on what they learned in grade 9. This trip is longer, harder, has more portaging and higher expectations for student independence in regards to camping skills.
