After winning both the Middle Year’s Engineering Banner and the Instant Challenge Banner at Destination Imagination’s Provincial Tournament, five Grade 8 students from Lac du Bonnet Senior School took their creativity to Knoxville, Tennessee for the Global Finals May 23-26. Lonnie Liske, principal and team manager, accompanied the students.
Lac du Bonnet Senior School (LdBSS) has been heavily involved with Destination Imagination – a worldwide creative problem-solving program – for the past seven years. Teams of students present their solutions to open-ended problems in tournaments.
Alicia, Olan, Teagen, Mya and Courtney – also known as Future Generation – competed in the Middle Year’s Engineering Challenge, Drop Zone, against 81 teams from 30 different countries. They finished tied for 33rd.
Competing in this educational tournament on a global stage allowed the students of Future Generation to meet and make friends with other students from all over the globe. Through this experience, they developed self-efficacy and personal growth, and found a passion for learning.
More than 17,000 students, parents and volunteers attend Global Finals each May. The festivities included the Destination Imagination tournament, interactive exhibits, pin trading, skills workshops, international events, collaborative games and activities, and more.
Congratulations to the team of Future Generation! We can’t wait to see what you do next with your creativity.
